As you may or may not know, I am one of the route leaders for the Friday night evangelism team at the St. Louis Dream Center. On my route we drive around the inner city of North St. Louis in a Dream Center van which is usually loaded some kind of beverage (water, power-aide, vitamin water, etc.) and some kind of snack (MRE’s-meals ready to eat, candy bars, etc.). We also bring Gospel tracts and at times Christian magazines, New Testaments and Joyce Meyer books. When the weather is nice in the spring, summer, and fall there are hundreds of kids and adults out and about in the neighborhoods of North St. Louis.

As the team members and I head out we ask the Holy Spirit to guide us where to go and we do our best to be sensitive to His leading. The Holy Spirit doesn’t disappoint and leads us to the places where there are young people who are ready and willing to listen to us and that we can reach with the Gospel. Our method is simple but effective, when we come upon a group of people we roll down the windows of the van and a team member will yell, “Dream Center! We have food and drinks for free, do you want any?” Almost always they say yes (free is hard to turn down) so we pull the van over and get out to greet them. As the crowd gathers around the van we begin to share strongly with them the need for salvation and how to be saved. We also give them Gospel tracts which explain the salvation message and have information about the Dream Center on them. When we give an opportunity to receive Jesus into their lives a lot of the time they will end up praying for salvation. Then we give out the food and drinks. We don’t give it out right away because they may leave after getting it and we are concerned not just for their bodies but for their spirit and soul as well. As we prepare to go onto the next site we encourage them to come to church for the growth of their spirit.

This simple, effective method can be used by anyone and doesn’t require a lot of resources. A 24 pack of water can cost just a few dollars but can be the tool that saves someone from an eternity in hell.
