Mardi Gras in St. Louis
Sunday morning, February 14th, at the St. Louis Dream Center I was with a policeman from the St. Louis Police Department and he was telling me that the St. Louis Mardi Gras celebration that took place on Saturday, February 13th had its biggest crowd ever here in St. Louis. Some others and I had passed out Gospel tracts and witnessed at that Mardi Gras celebration and I had noticed that the crowd seemed awfully large. At first it seemed discouraging that the Mardi Gras celebration was growing in numbers but the more I thought about it the more I realized that it is just a sign that people are on a search to fill up that void inside of them and find purpose and meaning to life. And of course they are not going to find that fulfillment and true purpose and meaning to life in sex, drugs and rock n’ roll. Eventually a lot of these people are going to discover this truth just like I discovered it 29 years ago. Once the people that were at Mardi Gras wake up empty inside they are going to remember the seed that was planted in them on February 13th that Jesus loves them and that He does have a higher and greater purpose for their life. I believe many of them will call out to the Lord and be saved. Despite all the drinking and craziness of Mardi Gras, most of the people were nice and respectful to us. This shows me even more that beneath that Mardi Gras mask their spirits are longing to be united to the creator of the universe, our heavenly Father.
