Only One Thing is Needful

bibleIn 1 Kings 19:10 it says that they have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars. In the day and age that we live in people have forsaken being in God’s Word like they should because of so many distractions in this world with too much time on the computer, texting, TV and all kinds of entertainment. If we want to have the power and anointing that Smith Wigglesworth had with people being raised from the dead and many other miracles and healings then we need to get back to the Smith Wigglesworth lifestyle. He would spend time reading the Word of God every 30 minutes. Even during meals he would stop eating and say that he needed to stop feeding his flesh for a while and feed his spirit. He then would open and read the Bible. When Lester Sumrall was young he visited Smith at his home in England. Lester said that going into Smith Wigglesworth’s house was like entering the throne room of God because the presence of God was so strong in his home.

Luke 10:39 says that Mary sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. In verse 41 Jesus told Martha that she was careful and troubled about many things or today’s translation would be you are texting and tweeting about many things. He then went on to tell Martha in verse 42 that only one thing is needful, not 2 things or 3 things or 4 things are needful, but only one thing is needful and Mary has chosen that good part which shall not be take away from her. In other words, if you spend your life sitting in front of the computer screen or the TV screen that can be taken away from you but if you spend your life winning souls and bringing people to heaven with you, sitting at the feet of Jesus, soaking in His love and in His presence, and in His Word then you will have lived a life of true purpose, meaning and fulfillment.
